Shivani Joshi

Artist

Shivani Joshi’s artistic practice stems from years of embodying Bharatnatyam training and Indian Folk dance styles. She completed her Arangetram with Avni Vyas at Shivanjali Dance Academy, and graduated with an MA in Performance Studies from NYU Tisch. Shivani has taught Contemporary Performance Analysis at Centennial College, and arts facilitation at various schools, universities, and non-profit organizations across Canada.

Shivani’s choreography embraces narratives that disrupt linearity, offering fragmentation, cyclical storytelling, and an exploration of multiplicity in form, content, and emotion. Her work has been presented by the Art Gallery of Hamilton, Dusk Dances, Creative Hub 1352, and the Bata Shoe Museum; and she continues to nurture her artistic practice and repertoire. Currently, she is a mentee of renowned choreographer Denise Fujiwara, who uses text and philosophy-based writing as an anchor for her work.

Shivani’s leadership and professional experience include notable organizations such as Navigate Leadership, Nova Dance, Dusk Dances, and more. As the Research Lead of Pounds Per Square Inch Performance, Shivani continues to serve communities of global majority in her research surrounding the complexities of the creative and artistic practice.
