Mel Hart
Curator
Mel Hart is a Scarborough-born dance artist and curator with the goal to bridge street, stage, and community. Mel is a York University BFA Honours graduate and co-artistic director of SaMel Tanz, with creations presented by DanceWorks, SummerWorks, Breakin’ Convention and Dance: Made in Canada/Fait au Canada. Rooted in Hip Hop, Salsa, and Western Contemporary dance forms, Mel’s practice celebrates collaboration, storytelling, and cultural dialogue. Beyond performance, she creates vibrant dance experiences for StreetARTToronto, Dance Together Project and Bix Events Co., transforming public spaces into sites of connection.
Curatorial Statement
I wanted to create a performance experience for the average passersby to remind audiences that dance is essential to human existence and that “what dance gives can also be received.”
