Joanna Majoko is a Toronto-based vocalist, composer, and lyricist known for her distinctive sound and dynamic presence. With over a decade of professional experience, she has performed extensively across Canada, the U.S., Europe, and Japan, and is sought after for her artistry and genre-spanning versatility.
She has been a featured performer in JazzFM.91’s Discover Women In Jazz series and leads the highly acclaimed Candlelight Jazz: Women of Jazz concert series in Toronto. From 2017 to 2023, Joanna was the lead vocalist of the internationally celebrated Afro-Cuban jazz ensemble Maqueque, led by Jane Bunnett.
Joanna’s work as a collaborator and performer includes contributions to Grammy winner Larnell Lewis’ JUNO-nominated album Slice of Life and Curtis Nowosad’s upcoming release. She has also collaborated with Soulpepper Theatre Company and acclaimed tap artist Travis Knights, and regularly works across disciplines with dancers and theatre-makers.
As an educator and arts advocate, she has served as a guest adjudicator and clinician at festivals across Canada and contributes regularly to jury panels for the Canada Council for the Arts, Ontario Arts Council, and Toronto Arts Council.
