Erin Poole
Curator
Erin Poole is a Tkaronto-based dance artist, facilitator, and practice-based researcher working in contemporary and experimental dance for over a decade.
Her practice explores the strata of performance and interdisciplinary collaboration as enlivening and necessary forms of intimacy. She often uses playful failure and subverted logics as modes of creation across her work.
Erin joined the Toronto Dance Theatre as a full time member from 2018 – 2024 where she performed, toured, and contributed to a range of works. She is currently completing a graduate degree focused on solo research-creation in Theatre, Dance, and Performance Studies at York University.
She co-organizes weekly classes with We Need It, a do-it-together collective, sharing experiential movement practices in community.
Curatorial Statement
I am focused on creating the conditions for collaborations between dance artists and children to form and flourish through exchange and reciprocity.
I am interested in amplifying the diverse ways dance artists approach the creation and facilitation of their work, while uplifting children as conceptual thinkers and co-conspirators of dance.
This curatorial project asks: How might these emerging collaborations make space for social and artistic dialogue? What does it take to come towards creation? How does a solo dance performance remain porous to questions of authorship, mutual learning, and shared inquiry with kids?
