Cara Spooner

Curator

Cara Spooner is a choreographer, caregiver and caretaker who makes performances, films, textiles and gardens that relate movement to sites and the body.

Her performance work has been presented in Canada at the National Arts Centre (Ottawa), The PuSh International Performance Festival (Vancouver), Canadian Stage (Toronto), FADO Performance Art Centre (Toronto) and The Goethe Institut (Toronto) as well as internationally at Stromereien 11 (Zürich) and Theatre Der Welt (Düsseldorf).

Her Audience Handbook has been translated and printed internationally.

She is of Belgian, Scottish, Ukrainian and Russian Jewish ancestry and is based in Tkaranto/Toronto Canada with her partner and two children where she is currently Co-Artistic Producer at Dancemakers.

Curatorial Statement

As part of the Nomadic Curatorial Collective:

Using adaptive curatorial models, we present performance in site-specific contexts while explicitly investigating curation, documentation and collaboration. We strive to critically engage with conceptual performance issues alongside practical curatorial strategies.

Our backgrounds as artists and scholars deeply informs our design and mandate. We strive to transparently investigate the practice of performance curation.
