RECENT WORKSHOPS:

MASTER CLASS WITH OREN LAOR & NIV SHEINFELD

This master class took place in February 2015, for dancers with visiting Israeli artists Oren Laor and Niv Sheinfeld began with learning movement phrases from their repertoire, including Two Room Apartment, as a starting point for devising new material. The main focus of the exercises that followed was on the connection between body and imagination, and the suggestion of the mental action as basis justification for every movement—either concrete or abstract.

The work that was done with the practitioners focused on developing a personal attitude towards physical suggestions. Students exercised transforming given material into their own language of movement, and were also given tasks that helped them generate new material, with the use of such stimuli as music, dramatic situations, kinetics, movement design and spatial sensing as potential sources of movement and partner interaction.

POST/CONTACT WITH KEITH HENNESSY - A PROFESSIONAL TRAINING WORKSHOP

We were pleased to welcome the inimitable Keith Hennessy to Dancemakers in May 2015 for Post/Contact, a week-long professional training workshop following our presentation of his new work Bear/Skin. The workshop looked at ways to critique and evolve the practice of Contact Improvisation and use Hennessy’s recent work Turbulence as a starting point for investigating normative disruptions and calculated disregard for generally accepted rules of engagement.
