Dance Writers-in-Residence Program (Dance WiRE)
Special Project in partnership between Dancemakers Centre for Creation and The Dance Current
Dancemakers and TheDanceCurrent.com launched its inaugural 2016-2017 Dance Writers-in-Residence Program in 2016-17, with participants Fabien Maltais-Bayda, MA in Drama, Theatre and Performance Studies at U of T; Robert Kingsbury, multidisciplinary artist working largely as a choreographer/performer; and Victoria McKenzie, also with an MA in Drama, Theatre and Performance Studies at U of T.
The writers built context for contemporary dance/performance, engaging in ideas and sharing writing experiences and strategies within a small group/seminar context. They had access to Dancemakers' performances, selected rehearsals and movement workshops, and also attended several talks/presentations, workshops and discussion sessions, developed and facilitated by The Dance Current's Megan Andrews in collaboration with Dancemakers' Curator Amelia Ehrhardt.
