Dance Writers-in-Residence Program
Special Project in partnership between Dancemakers Centre for Creation and The Dance Current
Dancemakers and The Dance Current are seeking interest from emerging Dance Writers for the inaugural Dance Writers-in-Residence Program, taking place at Dancemakers throughout the 16/17 season.
The program invites participants to build context for contemporary dance/performance, engage in ideas and share writing experiences and strategies within a small group/seminar context. Participants will have access to Dancemakers' performances, selected rehearsals and movement workshops, and will also attend several talks/presentations, workshops and discussion sessions, developed by Andrews and facilitated by Andrews in collaboration with Dancemakers' Curator Amelia Ehrhardt, to build context for contemporary dance/performance, engage in ideas and share writing experiences and strategies throughout the program.
Additionally, with editorial guidance and mentorship from Megan Andrews, participants will explore and develop writing in a variety of formats that may include but not be limited to: profiles, interviews, previews, reviews, program notes and columns/essays. Writers will work with Andrews through a professional editing process to hone their work toward publication. Selected writings will be published exclusively in a dedicated column at thedancecurrent.com. (*Partners The Dance Current and Dancemakers reserve the right to determine which pieces are published based on quality and timeliness, not on the writer's perspective or critical opinion .)
Participants must commit to attending all major productions of the Dancemakers season and maintain at least an 80% attendance rate at all other events associated with the program. Participants must also commit to meeting several deadlines throughout the year for new pieces of writing.
